Multi Fiber – Mixture Benefits
- Clinical studies using Nutricia’s Multi Fiber have demonstrated the following beneficial effects.*
- Improved gut transit
- Increased bifidobacteria (prebiotic effect)
- Increased short-chain fatty acid production
- Reduced diarrhea
- Reduced constipation/reduced laxative use
- Improved tolerance, e.g. reduced bloating
- In a double-blind, cross-over study of young, enterally fed children, Multi Fiber was able to significantly reduce the number of days that were affected by constipation by 64%, compared with when these children received a fiber-free feed.1
- Several studies have demonstrated the benefits on Multi Fiber compared with fiber-free formulas in reducing laxative use in enterally fed patients:
- 50% of patients on fiber-free feeds required laxatives, compared with only 13% of patients receiving Multi Fiber2
- 41% of patients who were commenced on Multi Fiber were able to stop or reduce their use of laxatives3,4
